The Melbourne Laneway Festival is set to take a major and very organic expansion. 2008 will witness the event open up into Lonsdale St which will hold an incredible main stage built underneath the overhead walkway between the Myer and Melbourne Central buildings. Says co-organizer Danny Rogers:

“We always hoped to be able to grow the Laneway Festival into a thriving little event that opened into the hidden alleys that we’ve been in love with for so long. Opening up onto Lonsdale St means that we can now have access to three laneways (Caledonian Lane, part of Drewery lane and the underpass that is normally a delivery dock around David Jones). I can now confidently say that we have the most creatively inspired event space in Australia and something that celebrates artists not for their chart success but for the integrity and originality of their art”.
